Lease programs, fees and sales tax depend on where you live, so the calculator starts with your province.
Use the quick calculator to see how MSRP, discount, rate, residual, down payment and trade-in change the payment.
Select a year, make and model to load the current lease programs, trims and incentives for that vehicle.
When the payment looks right, request an offer and a dealer will confirm the final numbers.
A lease payment has two parts. Depreciation is the difference between the amount you lease (the selling price minus your down payment and trade-in) and the residual value, spread over the term. The finance charge is the interest on the money tied up in the car, worked out with a money factor equal to the interest rate divided by 2,400.
Sales tax is then charged on each monthly payment rather than on the full price of the car, which is one reason leasing can mean a lower upfront cost than buying.
A higher residual value, a lower interest rate and a bigger discount off MSRP all reduce the payment. Manufacturer lease programs often combine a subsidised rate with a strong residual, which is why the same car can lease for less than a similar car with a lower price.
A down payment or positive trade-in equity lowers the monthly amount, while negative equity from a car you still owe money on is added to the lease and raises it.
